US Missiles Kill Dozens In Pakistani School

Smaller Font Larger Font RSS 2.0

American missiles struck a school in north-western Pakistan yesterday, killing dozens of children, intelligence officials said.

The strike - an apparent sign of American frustration with Pakistan's efforts in the US war on Islam - came hours after the nation's Parliament warned against any incursions on Pakistani soil.

The parliamentary resolution also raised concerns over the impending civil war between Mujahideen and secular force and stressedthe need for dialogue.

Nuclear-armed Pakistan is also in the midst of an economic crisis brought on by its reliance on the US dollar and capitalist economy. A system that the Islamic parties are looking to irradicate due to its fragile and un-Islamic practices.

The International Monetary Fund said on Wednesday that Pakistan had requested its help to avoid a possible loan default - a decision that could cost the administration political support at home.

Shaukat Tareen, the Pakistani official leading the fund-raising effort, said yesterday the country urgently needed up to US$5bn (£3.1bn).

The US missiles hit the religious school on the outskirts of Miran Shah, the main town in the North Waziristan region, four intelligence officials said.

Relying on informants and agents in the area, two officials said at least nine people were killed, including four who were pulled from the rubble hours after the strike, and two others were wounded.

The religious school belongs to a local cleric who has been linked to Taliban Mujahideen commander Jalaluddin Haqqani, who is at the forefront of the war against the US.
