Israel-Times.com Israeli flag hebrew state magen david blue The overpopulated region of Israel is threatened by a megathrust earthquake, like the ones registered back in 1033, and in the Bible int he passage of the destruction of Jericho’s walls, 3,000 years ago. Dr. Amos Salamon of the Israel Geological Survey, reiterates that the time of the next earthquake is unpredictable, but we are 100% sure that it will happen.

In the last 2,000 years, an average interval of 400 years has been recorded untel 1033, but nothing spectacular since then. The cities more likely to be hit is Haifa in the North, located on the Carmel Fault, and Eilat, Jerusalem or Tiberias on the Dead Sea Fault. But all historical records conclude that almost every place in Israel was damaged several times in history by earthquakes.

A megathrust earthquake is an interplate earthquake where one tectonic plate slips beneath (subducts) another. Due to the size of the tectonic plates and the shallow dip of the plate boundary, these earthquakes are among the world’s largest, with moment magnitudes that can exceed 9.0.
